Home Minister Amit Shah told the Lok Sabha the central government regretted the deaths of the 14 civilians. In a brief statement Mr Shah only recounted the events of the weekend, after which opposition MPs' shouts were overruled. Opposition MPs then walked out (except those from the Trinamool Congress) in protest.
